Sports Massage and Appointments

Do you offer emergency same-day appointments?

We do offer same day emergency appointments; however, there is a £120 fee due to the short notice of the appointment.

What happens if I cancel?

If you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment, there is a 100% charge for the appointment and payment will be taken as normal with no refund. If the appointment is cancelled within 48 hours, there is a 50% charge and the remainder will be refunded. This prevents last-minute cancellations, when the appointment could have been used by another client in pain.

How long is a sports massage session?

A first appointment runs to about seventy five minutes because it includes the assessment. Follow up sessions are usually sixty minutes. Timings are confirmed when you book.

Does sports massage hurt?

It can be firm, but it should never be something you have to brace through. Pressure is set with you during the session and adjusted as tissue releases. Working through sharp pain is counterproductive, so we do not do it.

Do I need to be an athlete?

No. Most clients are people who sit for a living and train around it. Sports massage describes the approach, which is assessment led and movement focused, rather than the client.

What do I need to wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, ideally similar to what you would wear to the gym. Shorts and a T-shirt or vest are all suitable.

For men: Loose shorts are ideal, particularly if we are treating the hips, glutes or legs.

For women: Shorts are suitable, along with a vest top, T-shirt or bra that you feel comfortable in. A standard bra may make access around the upper back and shoulders easier than a high-coverage sports bra, but your comfort always comes first.

You will remain appropriately covered throughout the treatment, with only the area being worked on exposed. You never need to remove more clothing than you are comfortable with; treatment can be adapted to work through clothing where needed. Please avoid tight jeans, restrictive clothing, belts, bulky jewellery or items with large zips.

How soon will I feel a difference?

Most people notice a change in range of movement the same day. Tenderness for twenty four to forty eight hours afterwards is normal. Lasting change usually needs the movement work between sessions, not just the treatment itself.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people with desk related neck and shoulder tension notice a clear change within two or three sessions. How long it holds depends on what changes at your desk and whether the movement work gets done.

How often should I come?

For an active problem, weekly or fortnightly at first, then spacing out as things hold. For maintenance, monthly suits most people. You should be aiming to need less over time, not more.

What happens in the first ten minutes?

Questions about your week, your work setup and your training, then a movement assessment. Treatment starts once there is a reason for where it starts.

Do I get anything to take away?

Two or three specific things to do between sessions, chosen so they fit the day you actually have rather than an ideal one.

Is massage safe for lower back pain?

For the common pattern of stiffness and ache from prolonged sitting, yes, and it is often very effective. Back pain with leg symptoms, numbness, bladder or bowel changes, or pain after a fall needs medical assessment first.

Can massage fix tension headaches?

Tension type headaches that originate from the upper neck and traps often respond well to soft tissue work. Headaches have many other causes, so if yours are frequent, severe, or new, see a GP first.

Can massage help with recurring hamstring tightness?

Often the hamstring feels tight because it is being lengthened by a pelvis that is tilted forward, not because the muscle is short. Stretching it harder rarely helps, which is why the assessment looks at the pelvis first.

Will this help my squat depth?

Frequently, yes, where the restriction is soft tissue or hip range rather than bony structure. The assessment tells us which it is, and if depth is limited by hip anatomy rather than tissue, you will be told rather than sold more sessions.

How soon before a race or competition should I book?

Deeper work is best three to five days out, so any tenderness has cleared. Lighter flushing work can be done closer to the day. Do not book your first ever deep tissue session the day before an event.

Is this useful on a rest day or a training day?

Either works. Many clients prefer the day after a hard session, or on a rest day before a heavier block. What matters more is consistency than the exact slot.

Why does my neck ache when the problem is my posture?

Because the muscles at the back of the neck are holding the weight of a head that has drifted forward. Every centimetre forward increases the load they carry. The ache is the symptom of a position, which is why treating the position matters as much as treating the muscle.

Why does my back hurt more in the afternoon?

Because it is cumulative. Tissue that has been held in one position for hours becomes less tolerant of that position as the day goes on. That daily curve is a strong clue that the cause is loading rather than damage.

Will stretching my back fix it?

Often not on its own. If short hip flexors are pulling the lumbar spine into extension, stretching the back gives temporary relief while the actual driver stays untouched. That is what the assessment is for.

Should I rest or keep moving?

For the ordinary desk related pattern, movement almost always beats rest. Gentle regular movement keeps tissue tolerant. Prolonged rest tends to make the first movements afterwards feel worse.

I work at a laptop all day. What is the single most useful change?

Getting the screen to eye height and using a separate keyboard. It removes the reason your head drifts forward in the first place, which is worth more than any stretch.

Home Visits

What do I need to provide for a home visit?

Enough floor space for a treatment table, roughly two metres by two metres, and a bath towel. We ask you provide a bath towel so that we are not using the same cloth for all of our clients. Even though we could wash towels we decide it is more hygienic if you provide your own.

Workplace and Corporate Sessions

Can you treat people at our office?

Yes. Workplace sessions run from a private room or any space with room for a treatment couch. Half day and full day blocks work best, with staff booked into slots through the day.

How much space is needed at work?

About two metres by two metres of clear floor inside a private room with a closeable door. A meeting room is usually fine.

What does it cost for a team?

Contact us via email to enquire about having a therapist on site for either a half or full day for your office staff. This can form part of corporate wellbeing days and includes a desk pitch for all staff to take away, with tips on how to improve their desk habits.

Contact

Is this a workplace wellbeing tick box?

It does not have to be. Sessions can include a short posture and desk setup review for each person, which tends to change more than the treatment alone.

Areas and Travel

Do you charge for travel?

If you have a Leeds postcode there is no charge. If you live outside of Leeds, get in touch with your postcode and we will give you an answer with the cost and travel arrangements.

Can you treat at my gym?

Yes, with the gym's permission. Many clubs have a room that works. It is worth checking with the manager before booking the first appointment.

Do you cover areas outside this list?

Often, yes. Get in touch with your postcode and you will get a straight answer on whether it works and what it costs.
